The Alabaster Jar is a case study for a fictitious ceramics studio owned by Jill Marsh, a retired ceramics professor from the Savannah College of Art and Design. The studio offers classes for all skill levels, beginner to expert, as well as studio space rental for independent ceramicists in need of a space to work— walk-ins welcome! The Alabaster Jar is complete with thirty pottery wheels, a glaze studio and four different types of firing kilns. Miss Jill runs the studio with the assistance of two student interns, Jonathan and Tammy, alternating between teaching classes and being available for questions in open studio.
throw some clay.
Movement is the name of the game for The Alabaster Jar. The logo mark, both an “a” and a “j” simultaneously, mimics the rotation of a pottery wheel—mesmerizing and consistent. The tagline, “throw some clay,” is casual. They’re a lowercase operation. Let’s not give off any sort of false illusion of formality, here. The pattern is a simplified version of the logo mark repeated over and over again, offering some texture and structure to a brand that otherwise focuses on movement and simplicity.
